Sewage leak or blocked sewer
Sewage overflowing from a manhole or drain, or a strong sewer smell.
Who deals with it
It goes to the water company for the area. Area Watch works out which one from where you are, so you do not have to.
What to photograph
Photograph from a safe distance, and do not let children or pets near it. Say whether it is coming from a manhole, a drain or a building, and whether it is getting into a stream or garden.
What the report includes
- The place, from your phone or the map, with the nearest address and postcode.
- Up to five photos, with location and camera data removed.
- What you say or type about it.
- Your phone number, if you want to add it. The water company may call to find the exact spot.
What happens next
Area Watch files it with them and you get a notification when it has been filed, with their reference number when they give one. Everything they tell us appears under My cases in the app, and you can mark it closed once it is fixed.
The Android app is in testing. It will be on Google Play first; an iPhone version follows.
